GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Many students have Monday off along with workers. Labor Day offers one last day to soak up the sun, food and fun of summer.

Labor Day was set aside as a day to pay tribute to working men and women, and many communities plan events and festivals to celebrate a day off and cap off summer fun.

More than 20,000 people were expected to attend the Labor Day Festival in Simpsonville this weekend.

Hundreds got a head start in Anderson and across the Upstate with a trip to local lakes.

The Upper South Carolina State Fair between Easley and Greenville along US 123 also began this weekend to celebrate the last days of summer with carnival rides, shows and sugary fun.

Many local events will continue on Monday. Simpsonville's festival will continue from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and the Upper State Fair opens its gates at noon.
