Dorman High School baseball coach resigns after arrest

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The head baseball coach at Dorman High School was arrested Sunday and charged with driving under the influence, according to school officials.

Dorman High School's athletic director Flynn Harrell said Coach Benjamin Waddle was placed on administrative leave as the Spartanburg County School District Six investigates the incident.

On Wednesday, school district spokeswoman Cynthia Robinson said Waddle submitted his resignation, effective immediately.

According to the Spartanburg County Detention Center website, troopers arrested 49-year-old Waddle before 2 a.m. Sunday morning and charged him with driving under the influence less than .10 first offense.

He was released from jail on a $997 bond.
