Sheriff Chuck Wright announces Diversion Roundup 2012. (Sept. 4, 2012/FOX Carolina)
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Spartanburg County deputies spent Tuesday working to arrest 41 people in connection with the illegal sale of prescription drugs.
Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright spoke to local media at First Baptist Church of Valley Falls about the 2012 Diversion Roundup, an undercover drug operation that led to 34 arrests as of 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Wright said the county-wide operation would continue until all 41 suspects were in custody. The operation was the conclusion of an eight-month investigation.

Wright said that the problem of the illegal selling and abuse of prescription drugs may not be the largest drug problem facing the county but it is still an issue that "harms people and ruins lives."
The majority of arrests were in connection with the illegal sale of prescription drugs, primarily pain pills like Lortab, Oxycodone and Xanax, according to Wright.
