STARR, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Anderson County man's efforts to find a new kidney for his wife has received national attention and an outpouring of support locally.

Larry Swilling and his wife, Jimmie Sue, have been married 56 years. They said the outpour of support has been unbelievable.

"Oh, nonstop," said Jimmie Sue Swilling. Her husband said their telephone has been literally ringing all night.

"Never imagine it would come this way," said Larry Swilling.

Jimmie Sue was born with one kidney instead of two, and she had complications after having their third child. She now needs a new kidney and neither Larry nor their three kids are a match.

To help find her a match, Larry Swilling has been walking streets across the Upstate wearing a sandwich board asking for help.

FOX Carolina aired the story Monday night and received several Facebook responses of people hoping they could help and be a match for Jimmie Sue.

Larry Swilling's creative campaign has caught the attention of nearly 100 people who are interested in donating and even some national media.

"I'm going to keep going till I know, am pretty sure I got one," said Larry Swilling. "I'm going to keep that faith in my head."

He said the current names and numbers have been sent to the kidney foundation in Charleston for possible donors to get tested to see if they're a match.

The Swillings said it would be an even greater blessing to see some of the possible donors help other people who are desperately waiting for a kidney around the country if they can't help Jimmie Sue.

"Oh that's wonderful cause there are so many people out there that needs the help and I hope they will get a kidney," said Larry Swilling.

Larry Swilling said he plans to spend his time off from work walking with the sign.
