NEWBERRY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Newberry police officer was injured after a suspect fired a gunshot through his front door before turning the gun on himself.

FOX Carolina spoke with Summer Schumpert, who said her fiance, 30-year-old William Frazier, beat her and told her he was going to kill her, the cops, then himself. She was able to get away and call 911.

Schumpert said she escaped and ran next door as Frazier was wrapping cords around the front door handles.

That is when two police officers arrived at a home on Fulmer Street just before midnight Wednesday. As they approached the home, police said someone inside the home fired a shot through the door, and a piece of projectile hit one of the officers in the arm.

Schumpert said she heard the gunshot go off while at the neighbor's house and saw the injured officer run down the street.

Police, deputies, troopers and State Law Enforcement Division agents spent several hours in a standoff trying to convince Frazier to exit.

The standoff lasted until about 3 a.m. Thursday when a robot was sent into the home and found Frazier dead, according to investigators.

Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton said Frazier died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Schumpert said Frazier had recently changed depression medications and had been acting strange. She said they planned to marry in June and were going to pick out cakes on Thursday.

SLED is investigating, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings in South Carolina.
