GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Cherokee County Investigators need your help finding a man who they said kicked in a woman's front door - but thankfully she protected herself.

Deputies said the woman was home alone with her baby, but she was able to pull a gun and scare off the man who violently broke into her house.

The deputy's report states the home invasion happened Thursday about 11 a.m. It said the mother was home with her infant when she heard loud knocking at the door and then she heard the front door get kicked in.

Investigators said that's when the victim grabbed her child, ran to a bedroom, locked the door, grabbed a gun and called 911.

"She told us when the man got to the bedroom that was locked, he forced himself into that room and she fired one shot at him," said Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Captain Richard Turner.

Investigators told FOX Carolina the guy didn't take anything and he ran away and is still on the loose. The victim declined to speak on camera about the incident.

If you have any information that can lead to an arrest, call the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
