SPRING HOPE, NC (AP/FOX Carolina) -
A North Carolina state trooper has died after being hit by a suspect's car fleeing authorities, troopers said.
Officials said Trooper Bobby "Gene" DeMuth was hit and killed Saturday morning near Spring Hope, NC.
Troopers said DeMuth was assisting Raleigh police officers who were trying to a stop a suspect on a high-speed chase along Highway 64.
DeMuth was trying to deploy stop sticks that would blow out the suspect's tires when the suspect ran him over.
DeMuth had been serving the state for 12 years.
The suspect was identified as Christopher Rodgers, 40, of Williamston, NC. Trooper
