Deputies: Walmart shoplifter pulls weapon on employee

Posted: Updated:

Deputies said a man trying to shoplift from a Greenville Walmart pulled a box cutter out and cursed at an employee who tried to stop him.

Greenville County deputies were called to the Walmart store on White Horse Road near Saluda Dam Road on Sunday about an armed robbery.

The store's loss prevention officer told deputies that he tried to stop a man from shoplifting a buggy full of merchandise when the suspect turned on him.

When the employee grabbed the cart, the man pulled out a box cutter, began waiving it and cursed at him, deputies said.

The victim let go of the buggy and called 911, allowing the suspect to flee in a vehicle without the merchandise.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.
