GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenville man pleaded guilty to beating a man in the head with a maglite flashlight then leaving him to die in a pool of blood in 2010, according to the solicitor's office.

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins said Gregory Gosnell, 48, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 17 years and six months in prison by Judge Larry Hyman.

During Monday's plea hearing, Wilkins said evidence showed that Gosnell went to the home of Donald Page Sr., 65, on Curtis Road and hit him in the head several times with the flashlight.

Gosnell then fled the scene, leaving Page to die from blunt-force trauma to the head and face, Wilkins said.

Gosnell turned himself in on Nov. 9, 2010 and was initially charged with murder.

Greenville County deputies said their investigation showed that there had been previous difficulties between Gosnell and Page because of woman whom they were both involved with.

Gosnell will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
