LAURENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Officials in Laurens County have issued a boil water advisory after a water main broke Friday morning.

The Laurens County Water and Sewer Commission said the advisory affects customers located south of Highway 76 near Hickory Tavern.

The advisory area includes Neely Ferry Road (from Wasson Gin to Ekom Beach), Wilsontown Road (including all of Lake Rabon Estates), Boyds Mill Pond Road, Hood Creek Road, Pitts Road and small roads off of these roads.

Customers are urged to vigorously boil water for at least one minute prior to drinking or cooking until otherwise notified.

Officials said work performed by a contractor along the shoulder of Highway 252 resulted in damage to a water main, affecting water service. They said the water system is not known to be contaminated, but there is a potential for contamination exists.

Questions should be directed to the commission.
