BELTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Anderson County coroner said a worker at a metal yard died after he was run over by a large piece of equipment Friday morning.

Coroner Greg Shore said the man and his coworker had been at Belton Metal Works on Sherrard Road since about 7:30 a.m. moving metal onto a large flat bed truck using a track hoe equipped with a large magnet. The track hoe is similar to a large excavator.

Shore said the man's coworker was driving the track hoe and ran over him, killing him. An autopsy will be performed Friday afternoon.

Shore said there have not been any other accidents at this business.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials are coming up from Columbia to investigate what happened.

Shore said the man, identified as 47-year-old Gamaliel Enriquez-Salzador, had worked at the metal yard since February 2005.

FOX Carolina spoke with Enriquez-Salzador's family who said he came to the U.S. from Guatemala with two of his four children. His family said he was well loved but knew his job was dangerous.

Enriquez-Salzador had told family he had close calls before working at the metal company but never an accident.
