16 cars burglarized, including Greenwood police car

GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said 16 vehicles were broken into in several areas of Greenwood County during the weekend, and all of the vehicles were unlocked, including a Greenwood police patrol car.

Greenwood County deputies said the thefts happened in the Pucketts Ferry Community off of Highway 246, Haltiwanger Road and off of Highway 254 around Greenwood High School.

The majority of the thefts were reported Sunday morning between 9 and 11 a.m. and many of the victims said they had last left their vehicles between 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday night, according to the incident reports.

Deputies said several victims reported that their dogs were heard barking and motion lights went off about 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

Among the items stolen, most victims reported items like iPods, GPS units, purses and wallets stolen. Deputies said several guns were also stolen from the unlocked vehicles.

Additionally there were two break-ins sometime Friday night into Saturday morning in the same areas, deputies said.

According to one of the incident reports, the burglars broke into an unlocked Greenwood Police Department vehicle and stole several guns, a bulletproof vest, his patrol bag and several rounds of ammunition.

Deputies said the unlocked vehicles were broken into at homes along the following roads: Pucketts Pointe Road, Ferry Cove Road, Thomason Pointe, Watersedge Road, Overbrook Drive, Winding Creek Drive, Yosemite Drive, Cherokee Drive and Amherst Drive.
