GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Blacksburg woman was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 85 on Monday morning.
According to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler, 31-year-old Elizabeth Hodge was trying to enter I-85 northbound from Highway 11 when she lost control of her vehicle, which slid into the path of a tractor-trailer also traveling northbound.
Fowler said the tractor trailer hit Hodge's car in the driver's-side door, which trapped her in the vehicle. He said a passerby was able to free Hodge just before the car burst into flames.
Hodge was taken to Upstate Carolina Medical Center, where she later died. She was not wearing a seat belt, Fowler said.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured in the crash.
