SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Days after receiving news that a plant would leave nearly 600 workers without a job, city officials in Seneca were eager to announce plans for a new hotel.

Seneca Mayor Pro Tempore Ronnie O'Kelly said a four-story Hampton Inn and Suites will open in the fall of 2013, creating 38 jobs.

Construction on the 100-room hotel is set to begin on Oct. 1 at the East North First Street location.

The new tourism addition to town will bring in an estimated $10 million.

City leaders made the announcement Tuesday morning at City Hall.

Covidien announced on Sept. 12 that the company plans to close its Seneca facility, impacting 595 full-time and temporary employees by the closure.
