A Spartanburg man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Tuesday after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a girl.

James Irby III, 43, was convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Prosecutors said the 13-year-old girl told deputies she was assaulted by Irby several times for two years.

Irby told investigators that the girl had made sexual advances toward him, prosecutors said.

Irby must serve 80 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole. Also, his name will be added when he is released from prison.
