Police said a suspect is in custody in Georgia in connection with the theft of several electronics in downtown Greenville.

Between Aug. 23 and Sept. 12, Greenville police said numerous laptops were stolen from the Central Business District, and surveillance was released to authorities in the Atlanta area.

Police said the alleged thief struck multiple times, stealing $75,000 worth of electronics from several downtown businesses.

Police said the suspect, 34-year-old Donald Carter of Dublin, GA, gave info to investigators that connected him to some but not all of the Greenville thefts.

Carter is being held in Dalton, GA, at the county detention center on several unrelated charges.

Greenville police said they plan to charge him with four counts of second-degree burglary, one count of grand larceny and one count of petit larceny.

Carter is being held in Whitfield County on charges including possession of tools for commission of a crime, fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer, criminal attempt to commit a felony and driving while license is suspended or revoked, among other charges.

According to WTVC in Chattanooga, Carter led law enforcement on a high-speed chase reaching speeds of 120 mph along Interstate 75 prior to his arrest on Sept. 13.

WTVC reported Carter told Tunnel Hill police he was on his way to Chattanooga to commit more burglaries. Police in Georgia said Carter is wanted in connection with burglaries in Alabama, Georgia and Florida, according to WTVC.

There is no word yet when he will be extradited to the Upstate.
