SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Amazon's warehouse in Spartanburg shipped its first order Thursday, according to a spokesman for the online retailer.
Earlier this year, officials broke ground on the 1 million-square-foot facility near John Dodd Road and Interstate 26. They began hiring for jobs at the warehouse during the summer.
Nearly 400 people work at the Amazon Fulfillment Center, according to the spokesman. He said hundreds more are expected to be hired as the holiday retail season begins.
Thursday's order was a Canon wireless printer, which was shipped to a customer in Florida, the spokesman said.
