A Buncombe County detective resigned Friday after he was accused of shoving a man during a scuffle at a high school volleyball game.
Investigators said that during the game at North Buncombe High School on Thursday a group of fans began shouting at each other and eventually became unruly. They said that school officials and deputies separated the fans.
Deputies said that while they were defusing the situation, off-duty Detective Mitch McAbee shoved a man. That man was later treated at Mission Hospital.
On Friday, McAbee resigned.
McAbee had worked at the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office for 17 years.
