WOODFIN, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting that happened after a Sunday morning car chase in western North Carolina.

Investigators said a Woodfin police officer pulled a car over along Interstate 26 about 4 a.m. near exit 23.

As the officer approached the car, it sped away and the officer began chasing it along I-26, ending on Emma Road, where the officer attempted to arrest the driver, police said.

Woodfin Police Chief Brett Holloman said the officer tried several times to apprehend the driver, who began ramming his car into the path of the officers and hit a patrol car.

That's when the officer shot the driver, who was taken to Mission Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Holloman said.

Police said three other people were in the vehicle and were not injured.

The name of the officer involved has yet to be released.
