ANDERSON (AP/FOX Carolina) -

Two people were killed in a crash that shut down Interstate 85 for several hours in Anderson County on Sunday, according to troopers.

The accident happened about 9:10 p.m. along the northbound side near mile marker 20.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said a 1992 Ford Taurus was in the center lane when it slowed down considerably or had come to a stop when it was rear-ended by a Dodge pickup truck.

All three riding in the Taurus were roommates who lived in Greenville, Shore said. He identified the driver as Andrew Schmuck, 32, and the passenger was Ashley Carruthers, 21.

The second passenger was flown to a Greenville Memorial Hospital and is in critical condition, according to Shore.

Troopers said the driver of the truck was also taken to AnMed Health with non-life threatening injuries.

Lance Corporal Bill Rhyne with the Highway Patrol said they need another witness to come forward who may have seen the accident happen.

Based on a witness' statement, Rhyne said someone driving a red Corvette may have seen the crash happen but did not stop, and troopers hope that person will come forward to help with troopers' investigation.
