NEWPORT, NC (FOX Carolina) -
A coastal North Carolina girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert issued Monday was found near Miami on Wednesday evening, according to WSVN-TV.
Deputies in North Carolina said 12-year-old Abigale Lefevers was last seen at 128 McNeil Rd. in Newport. They said Lefevers was taken by 38-year-old Timothy Newman.
Deputies said the pair was believed to be traveling in a red 1998 Chrysler Sebring with a black top and license plate number AKT-6534. The vehicle was last seen traveling south on U.S. Highway 17.
On Tuesday, officials said they had reason to believe that the pair may have been in the Myrtle Beach area or traveling along the South Carolina coast.
Officials said on Wednesday they believed the pair may have headed to Florida. That evening, WSVN-TV reported that Lefevers and Newman were found in the parking lot of a restaurant along Interstate 95 in Hallandale Beach, FL.
Newman, a registered sex offender, was arrested.
Lefevers was not harmed, police said.
