A volunteer fireman in Abbeville County was arrested Tuesday after officials said he embezzled the department's money.
Deputies said Jonathan Bedenbaugh, a volunteer and treasurer at the Donalds Fire Department, stole about $14,000 between January 2011 and June 2012.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigated the Donalds Fire Department at the request of the Abbeville County Sheriff's Office after thousands of dollars was reported missing from the department.
In June, representatives of The Abbeville County Sheriff's Office told FOX Carolina that the Donalds Fire Chief confronted the individual they believe is responsible for the missing money and he admitted to spending the money but couldn't recall on what.
Commissioners said the money had been paid back.
Bedenbaugh was charged with misconduct in office and embezzlement.
