Easley High teacher accused of sex with student

LIBERTY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Easley High School teacher was arrested Thursday after police said he had sex with a student.

Liberty police said 31-year-old John Kilgallen was charged with sexual battery with a student after an investigation revealed he had a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old female student.

A spokesman for the Pickens County School District said Kilgallen was placed on administrative leave on Tuesday after the girl's parents told school officials about the relationship.

Kilgallen resigned before his arrest on Thursday, according to a school spokesman.

Kilgallen had taught science at Easley High School for several years.
