SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A robber is wanted after police said he pulled a gun on two students at Wofford College.
Spartanburg Public Safety and Wofford Campus Safety are looking for a man of whom they have a sketch.
Wofford officials said that two students got out of their car and were approached by a stranger with a gun. Their money was stolen, but no one was hurt.
It is an open campus, which means it's not gated at night, so it is easier for people to get in and out.
"I don't think people need to be nervous this is by and large a very safe campus and we don't have a lot of incidents like this," said Laura Corbin, Wofford's spokeswoman. "Our campus safety is always vigilant and our students and staff and daily are on the lookout."
The robbery happened Sept. 14 just before midnight in the parking lot of The Village, where many of Wofford's seniors live.
The parking lot is fenced, it's lit, and it's not far from apartments with cameras.
But students said when they get home late after studying or partying, it's not unusual to see people they know don't belong.
Katie Wiebusch and her roommate try not to go anywhere alone.
"What can you expect?" said Wiebusch. "We've been warned. It is Spartanburg. There's a lot of crime around here."
Emergency lights and phones stand all over Wofford's campus for people to call straight to Campus Safety.
Since Wofford is in the Spartanburg city limits, the two departments work closely with each other. Spartanburg Public Safety's forensic artists drew the sketch of the suspect, based on the victims' description.
Anyone with information on the robbery or who can identify the man is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.
