Deputies were investigating a bank robbery after two masked men fled an Asheville bank with cash on Tuesday.

Buncombe County deputies were called to the PNC Bank located at 1007 Smokey Park Hwy. about 9:15 a.m. after two men wearing heavy clothing with hoods, masks and gloves entered the bank and demanded money.

The men fled on foot. Deputies said no one was injured in the robbery and no customers were inside the bank at the time.

Deputies said they arrested one of the suspects in connection with the robbery.

Robert Thomas Sr., 51, of Candler was arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and is being held on a $60,000 secured bond.

Deputies did not release any information about the second suspect and said their investigation is ongoing.
