James Smithson (Richland Co. Detention Center)
COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Prosperity police officer has been charged with distributing marijuana and misconduct in office.
According to multiple agencies, including the South Carolina Attorney General's Office, James Smithson, 44, was arrested on Sept. 27 and being held at the Richland County Detention Center.
Newberry County deputies along with State Law Enforcement Division investigated Smithson.
He was charged with two counts of distribution of marijuana and misconduct in office, according to the Attorney General's Office.
Smithson is scheduled to have a bond hearing on Wednesday.
