Two children hit by truck at bus stop

ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

School district officials said two children were hit by a small truck at an Anderson County bus stop Thursday morning.

The accident happened about 6:45 a.m. along Travis Road at Williams Road near U.S. 29 in Anderson.

Anderson District 3 Superintendent Dr. Mason Gary said the children were hit at the bus stop and were taken to a local hospital.

Gary said the children attend Starr Elementary School. He did not know the extent of the children's injuries.

He said the school bus arrived at the stop after the accident and notified authorities.

Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the children, who are 6 and 8 years old, were taken to AnMed with injuries, but their conditions are not known at this time.

Rhyne said they children entered the road and were hit by a 1993 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck traveling east. Troopers do not yet know why the children were in the roadway.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
