ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -
Emergency workers in Asheville spent Thursday afternoon rescuing a worker who became trapped in a trench.
The accident happened about 1 p.m. in the 300 block of Airport Road.
Officials said a worker was installing a sewer line when the ground underneath him gave out, and he became trapped from his waist down.
Emergency workers responded and shored up the trench. Paramedics were then able to enter the trench and care for the trapped man, while other people worked to free him.
It took about 90 minutes to free the man, officials said. He was flown to Mission Hospital to be treated.
