ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Asheville police said a pedestrian was hit by two different vehicles, and they are still searching for the first driver who fled.

The pedestrian had been hit by a car and was left lying in the roadway when the second car came around the blind curve along Riverside Drive near Craven Street Bridge on Sept. 17.

The second driver called 911 about 11 p.m. when he said he saw the body in the road and tried to avoid hitting him but hit the victim's legs, police said.

The victim had been hit by the first driver just before his legs were run over, police said.

The man was taken to Mission Hospital with serious injuries to his head and legs and has since been discharged for further rehabilitation.

Investigators are trying to find anyone with further information on the hit-and-run vehicle and its driver. They said there should be damage to the front grill, hood and/or windshield.

If you have information about this hit-and-run you're asked call the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110 or Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050.
