SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A five-vehicle crash shut down Interstate 85 near Spartanburg for a few hours Friday evening.

The crash happened about 5:10 p.m. on the northbound side of I-85, near mile marker 80.

South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers said all five vehicles were traveling northbound, when the driver of one vehicle noticed traffic beginning to slow. They said that driver made a lane change and hit a van, which flipped and was then hit by a third vehicle. They said the first vehicle continued traveling northbound and hit two more vehicles before all five vehicles came to a stop.

Troopers said the northbound side of the heavily traveled interstate was shut down for nearly three hours while the crash was investigated.

Pictures of the scene sent in by a FOX Carolina viewer showed several vehicles had sustained heavy damage in the crash.

Two people were injured in the crash, but the extent of their injuries were not immediately released.

Troopers said the driver of the first vehicle was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
