The campaign trail for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will wind through Asheville on Thursday.

According to the former Massachusetts governor's campaign website, Romney will hold a rally with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and country music singer Ronnie Milsap at the U.S. Cellular Center at 87 Haywood St. The event starts at 6 p.m., but doors open at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are required to attend the event and can be obtained through Romney's website.

City officials announced Wednesday that traffic on several streets near the event will be affected during Romney's visit:

  • Haywood Street will be closed from Walnut Street to Page Avenue and Flint Street. Vehicles will not be allowed to park in metered spaces on the street beginning Wednesday night.
  • Flint Street will be closed from Haywood to Cherry streets.
  • Hiawassee Street will be closed from Flint Street to Rankin Avenue.
  • Traffic to and from Vanderbilt Apartments will be directed through the Civic Center Parking Garage.
  • Drivers will only be able to access the Civic Center Parking Garage from Rankin Avenue.

Romney's visit comes a week after Vice President Joe Biden visited the UNC Asheville campus. During his visit, Biden said that if the president wins North Carolina, he will win the election.

North Carolina is among nine swing states in the Nov. 6 general election.
