UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Police said a 12-year-old boy is accused of offering two young brothers time to play with his bike in exchange for sexual favors.
According to police reports in May, two brothers, ages 4 and 7, came to a park to enjoy some basketball. Sgt. Troy Wright with the Union Public Safety Department said that's when they were approached by another boy.
"They were asked to do a sexual favor for a 12-year-old juvenile," Wright said.
Wright said the 12-year-old lured the boys from the court to a building where he exposed himself and asked for oral sex.
Wright said the older brother kept the younger away, then the 12-year-old tried trading time on his bike for sexual favors. He said the boys eventually told their dad what happened.
"As a law enforcement officer and as a parent, it's disturbing," Wright said.
It took officers months to investigate the claims and said because of their ages, the suspect and victims had to be interviewed by specially trained psychologists, Wright said.
"With every case we want to know every side of the story; our investigators worked diligently to get stories from both the victims and the suspects to make sure they had enough evidence," said Wright.
Sierra Jeter has a 4-year-old of her own and had no idea about what allegedly happened in this park.
"I think it's pretty disgusting and sad to happen to a 4-year-old," said Jeter. "It's pretty sad."
Jeter said it's hard to imagine this could happen in a wide open playground and suggests moms keep a close watch on their kids at all times.
"Just keep an eye on them, just watch them, because there ain't no telling what could happen," said Jeter.
The 12-year-old boy was charged with criminal sexual assault. Wright said the family court judge will hear and try his case, and if he is indicted, he could be taken into custody until he is 21 under the Youthful Offenders Act.
