SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Hillcrest High School Marching Band will be hitting the road this Friday night, but they'll be seven members short.

Officials with Greenville County Schools told FOX Carolina those seven students have been suspended from the band and from school.  They're accused of smoking pot at a band competition.

Officials said the incident happened on Saturday, Sept. 15 during the Greenville County Marching Band exhibition at North Greenville University.  They said the school administration did not learn about the incident until much later when it was reported.

School district spokeswoman Susan Clarke released this statement: "Seven Hillcrest High School students were suspended pending a recommendation for expulsion as required by the student behavior code."

The school district did not specify the ages of the students, but did confirm they are all members of the Hillcrest Marching Band.  They also said the seven students admitted to it.

Right now, there's no word if any charges will be filed with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
