The Buncombe County chapter of The Salvation Army has several volunteer opportunities:
▪Christmas Assistance Registration Days 9am-4pm - Oct. 8 through Oct. 11 & Oct. 12, 9:00am-12:00pm
Caring volunteers English and Spanish speaking (one-on-one) assist disadvantaged individuals and families in the application process as they register for Angel Tree gifts and Christmas Food Boxes. Good penmanship is helpful. Location – 750 Haywood Road, West Asheville.
▪November 22nd –Thanksgiving Dinner at Center of Hope
Volunteers are needed to help with food preparation, serving and clean-up for Thanksgiving Meal provided to the public. Volunteers will serve lunch and dinner to shelter residents starting at 11:30 am and will help serve public from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Location – 204 Haywood Street, Downtown Asheville
▪November 16th through December 14th - Angel Tree at The Asheville Mall —Volunteers are stationed at the Angel Tree during mall business hours from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm seven days a week. They assist in adopting out "Angels" by documenting simple information and checking in gifts after they are returned. Asheville Mall. Friendly faces and smiles are welcomed. Flexible hours.
▪December 4th - 14th – Angel Tree Set-up
Volunteers assist with the set-up of Angel Tree gifts by sorting and arranging for Distribution Days in our distribution warehouse. May require some heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. Located at 750 Haywood Road, West Asheville.
▪December 11th & 12th – Packing Food Boxes-Volunteers assist in putting together and packing food boxes for families and individuals who have applied for Christmas assistance. May require some lifting up to 25 lbs. Located at 750 Haywood Road, West Asheville.
▪December 18th & 19th Distribution of Food & Toys & 20th Distribution of Food Only – Volunteers assist families with picking up their toys and food boxes for their families/children at The Salvation Army building located at 750 Haywood Road, West Asheville.
▪December 25th Christmas Dinner-
Volunteers are needed to help with food preparation, serving and clean-up of Christmas Dinner served to the public. Volunteers will serve lunch and dinner to shelter residents starting 11:30 am. Volunteers will serve dinner to the public from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Location – 204 Haywood Street, Downtown Asheville
