SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Clemson University student from Pennsylvania was killed in a one-car crash Tuesday, which was his birthday.
Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said 22-year-old Tyler Sands, of Exton, died in the crash that happened along Shiloh Road about 12:15 a.m. Troopers said the accident happened about 2.3 miles south of Seneca.
Sands was a passenger in a car driven by a 20-year-old friend, who was taken to Oconee Medical Center for evaluation, Addis said.
Troopers said the car was traveling south when it ran off the road, hitting a tree and trapping Sands. Both Sands and the driver were wearing seatbelts, troopers said.
Addis said the car appeared to be going fast, with speed and alcohol suspected as contributing factors in the crash.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
