EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Two men are in custody after police said they saw each other and fired shots at each other at an Easley apartment complex.

Easley police charged Johnny Walker, 32, and Michael Wofford, 20, with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

According to the arrest warrants, Walker and Wofford were involved in a shooting at the Westgate Apartments in Easley on Oct. 12.

Sgt. Rashad Murray with Easley police said the pair were acquaintances who hadn't seen each other in a while. When they saw each other about 6:30 p.m. Friday, Wofford told police that Walker fired twice at him, and he shot back.

Neither was injured and both ran when police arrived, Murray said. He said officers found one of the men in the woods with his gun beside him that night, and the other was arrested the next day.

Police said neighbors witnessed the incident and helped investigators identify the suspects. Those neighbors said it is not unusual to see fights or violence in the Westgate complex.

One woman did not want to be identified, but said that she tried to stay elsewhere on the weekends when she knew fighting often escalated.

"I don't feel safe in my own apartment. And it shouldn't have to be that way. And I have this kid... and right now, I don't have a choice," the woman said.

Both Walker and Wofford are being held at the Pickens County Detention Center on bond.
