TGIF! We have some low cloud cover and areas of dense fog out there this morning - so be prepared for a slower-than-normal commute. I've seen reports of very low visibilities around Rutherfordton, Anderson, Duncan and Six Mile (among other places) - so you could encounter the fog through the Mountains, NE GA and Upstate areas. By 9-10 AM, the fog and low cloud cover should be out of here, and we'll enjoy TONS of sun through the rest of the day.
The only weather problem we'll encounter today will be gusty winds. There is a tight pressure gradient over the region - as an area of low pressure continues to spin around the Great Lakes. Winds will be out of the southwest today, with speeds of 10-20 mph locally. Gusts of up to 30 mph are possible. Combined with very dry air in place, the winds will enhance the fire danger - so please avoid any outdoor burning today, and be careful with cigarette butts.
If you're heading to Friday night football games, temperatures will generally be in the 50s - so make sure you're wearing a sweatshirt or light jacket. Skies will stay mainly clear through the evening and overnight, with temps really cooling off overnight. We'll drop into the mid 40s in the Upstate - so if you're planning on tailgating early at Clemson, bundle up! WNC lows will drop into the upper 30s, meaning patchy frost is likely. Some of the highest peaks may drop to the freezing mark as well.
Saturday and Sunday highs will be SLIGHTLY below-normal, but still very comfortable. We'll keep the dry trend going with sunshine and only sunshine in the forecast. That means if you're going to be watching the Clemson or Furman games tomorrow, you'll be able to leave your rain gear at home. If you're going to head to the pumpkin patches, corn mazes or just taking in the fall color, it will be great for that too! In fact, the leaf colors will really be popping in the bright sunshine, making for excellent viewing/photographing.
High pressure stays in charge through most of the upcoming week, as well - so expect sunshine to stay overhead through Thursday of next week. Temperatures will be warming Monday through Friday - in the mid/upper 70s in the Upstate and low/mid 70s in the Mountains.
Have a great weekend!!
