Deputies said an intoxicated Hendersonville man had an argument with a friend then stabbed him with a machete-type knife on Thursday.
Henderson County deputies said they were called to a home on Westall Street in East Flat Rock where the victim was found with large cuts to his chest and leg.
Witnesses told deputies that the victim, suspect and a few other friends had been drinking and when they asked the suspect to leave, an altercation ensued.
The suspect, identified as David Parris, 40, allegedly stabbed the victim with a rusty machete then fled on foot. He was later found by North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers and Hendersonville police near Old Spartanburg Road and Highway 176, deputies said.
Parris was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting serious bodily injury. He was placed in the Henderson County Detention Center on a $50,000 secured bond.
Deputies said the victim was airlifted to Mission Hospital and remains in serious but stable condition.
