Diane Williams (Asheville Police Dept.)
ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -
Asheville police said a woman lied about being robbed at gunpoint Thursday night.
Police said 50-year-old Diane Williams, of Asheville, told investigators that she had withdrawn $50 from an ATM along Patton Avenue. They said Williams reported that while she was walking along Coxe Avenue, two men in a pickup truck approached her and stole her cash.
Officers responded to the scene and searched the area for more than hour in an effort to find the robbers, police said.
Investigators said that after reviewing security camera footage, they questioned Williams about the robbery. They said she then admitted to making up the robbery.
Police did not say why Williams lied about the crime.
