The Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened in Greenville County on Saturday.

Troopers said the wreck happened just before 5 a.m. on Edwards Road.

Coroner Barry Wright said 28-year-old Randall Bridges was driving in the northbound lane with his girlfriend when he hit the back of the vehicle in front of him that was stopped at a light.

Troopers said Bridges' car swiped a utility pole after the crash, causing his fatal injury.

Wright said he died from blunt force trauma to the head.

His girlfriend was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
