On Wednesday, Spartanburg police named a homeless man as a person of interest in connection with an assault at a grocery store Monday night.

The woman told police she was putting her groceries in her car after shopping at the Food Lion on Garner Road about 9:10 p.m. when a man approached her and asked for money.

According to a Spartanburg public safety report, the woman refused the man several times but he then began helping her put her bags in her car's trunk and then touched her. She told police that she and the man then went inside, picked up some groceries, and as the items were being bagged she told the cashier that she did not know the man. The man then bagged up the groceries and ran out of the store as she paid the bill, the woman told police.

On Wednesday, police said 49-year-old Robert Pilgrim is known to frequent the area, and is believed to have information about the attack.

Anyone with information on Pilgrim's whereabouts was asked to call 911.
