An Arizona man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Thursday for a violent rape that happened in Spartanburg more than two years ago.

Prosecutors said 23-year-old Quinton Stratton pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct, assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Investigators said that on Feb. 27, 2010, they were called to a home on Monks Grove Road where they found a woman suffering from a stab wound to her neck and a stab wound to her chest. They said the woman identified Stratton as her attacker before she was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Two people who were inside the home at the time of the attack told authorities that Stratton beat on their bedroom door after that attack and told them he thought he had killed the woman and that he needed help to dispose of the body, prosecutors said.

Stratton was arrested a short time after he fled the scene, prosecutors said.

Stratton must serve 80 percent of his sentence before being eligible for release. His name will be added to the sex offender registry.
