GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A newborn giraffe at the Greenville Zoo has been getting a lot of attention since its birth Monday night, but a Twitter account written in the calf's voice has also generated a lot of buzz.

Autumn, the zoo's 6-year-old Masai giraffe, went into labor just before 11 p.m. Monday, according to Greenville Zoo Director Jeff Bullock. About 50 minutes later, Kiko arrived. He said the calf was walking by 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, and nursed for the first time just before 2 a.m.

Since then, the tongue-in-cheek Twitter account @GVLBabyGiraffe has been created, giving people insight into what Kiko thinks of all the attention. The question a lot of people have been asking is, who is the voice of Kiko?

On Friday's edition of FOX Carolina's The Morning News, the person behind the baby giraffe's tweeting was revealed to be David Haskins, a marketer from Greenville.

"The night Kiko was being born, I texted my brothers and sent them a link to the live cam," Haskins said. "One of my brothers said, 'Has anybody started a Twitter account for the giraffe?' So, the next morning I started the account and started with the sarcastic comments."

So far, the witty Twitter account has 782 followers. Haskins, whose Twitter handle is @SkinnySC, said that is more followers in just three days than he has in three years of using the micro-blogging service.

Haskins said the reaction has been great, but one of the more fun parts of the venture has been the anonymity.

"One of the fun things has been tweeting people I actually know, that don't know it's me," Haskins said.

Haskins, who is not officially associated with the Greenville Zoo, said he plans to keep tweeting for Kiko as often as he can. He has also created a Facebook page and a Foursquare account for Kiko.

Autumn is on a breeding loan from Boston's Franklin Park Zoo. She was paired with Walter, the zoo's 7-year-old giraffe, which is from the San Diego Zoo. According to an agreement, Franklin Park Zoo now owns Kiko. He will likely be moved to his new home after about a year. Autumn and Walter's second calf will go to the San Diego Zoo and the pair's third calf will remain at the Greenville Zoo. Bullock said he would expect to see another calf from the pair in about two years.
