The USDA Forest Service issued an updated sketch on Friday of the man accused of raping a woman in the Nantahala National Forest in Macon County more than a year ago.
The Forest Service, the Macon County Sheriff's Office and the State Bureau of Investigations are looking for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Officials said the victim was raped Sept. 25, 2011 around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Forest Service Road 711 and Wayah Road.
Officials said a female driving through the area stopped to help a man she believed was incapacitated and lying beside the road. Officials said a man used a firearm to subdue the woman and then raped her.
Officials said the man is 6'0", 200 pounds, between the ages of 30 and 40, with brown wavy short hair, and green to blue eyes. Officials said the suspect has a deep voice and a fair complexion.
In recent months, law enforcement officers have followed up on leads and conducted interviews but no arrests have been made.
