CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Clemson University named Georgia Tech Athletics Director Dan Radakovich as the school's new athletics director Monday.

The announcement came at a news conference, ending a three-month national search that drew more than 30 candidates.

Clemson President James Baker said Radakovich is the right person to build on the strong foundation under the leadership of retiring athletics director Terry Don Phillips.

"He knows what it takes to win championships," Barker said. "He has a proven track record in fundraising and revenue growth, and he is committed to compliance and student-athlete welfare."

Radakovich, who has been the AD at Georgia Tech since 2006, called the job an incredible opportunity.

"Clemson is synonymous with success on and off the fields of competition," Radakovich said. "I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence."

Radakovich also served as the senior associate athletics director at Louisiana State University.

Phillips announced in August that he plans to retire next year.

Radakovich will be the 13th athletic director in Clemson's history.
