TRAVELERS REST, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police said a black bear was spotted on the Swamp Rabbit Trail in northern Greenville County on Halloween.

Travelers Rest Police Chief Lance Crowe said they received calls that someone had seen the bear along the edge of the trail not far from the BP gas station between Edwards Street and Roe Road about 5:30 p.m.

The bear was about 300 to 400 pounds and was seen running across U.S. 25 towards Precision Valve, Crowe said.

Police said the bear ran off into the woods away from the trail.

One of the officers said he saw a younger, smaller bear about two years ago in a local subdivision home's backyard not far from Wednesday's sighting. He said he thinks it may be the same bear, which has grown about 200 pounds since the earlier sightings.

Police ask everyone to be aware of their surroundings.
