Sergio Gomez (Solicitor's Office)
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Charlotte man was sentenced to 15 years in prison Thursday after he was caught with a large amount of cocaine on Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County two years ago.
Prosecutors said 42-year-old Sergio Gomez pleaded guilty to trafficking cocaine.
Gomez was arrested on Aug. 30, 2010, during Operation Rolling Thunder, prosecutors said. They said deputies searched Gomez's truck during a traffic stop and found five bricks of cocaine in a tool box.
Gomez must serve 80 percent of his sentenced before being eligible for parole.
In addition to the prison sentence, Gomez was fined $50,000.
