GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville County deputies said they arrested five people in September after they found two chop shops in Greenville.

Deputies said that about 11 p.m. Sept. 25, they were called to 2490 New Easley Highway after someone reported a burglary in progress. They said that arriving deputies found three people, identified as 53-year-old Donna Collins, 44-year-old Melissa Hammond and 29-year-old Matthew Smith, inside. They said that deputies at the scene began running license plates on vehicles in the parking lot of the business and found that several of the vehicles had been reported stolen. They also said that a semi truck found inside the business was in the process of being disassembled.

Investigators said they learned that 57-year-old Ricky Gosnell was the head of the chop shop. They said Gosnell was eventually located and found to be in possession of tires from the semi truck.

Deputies said an investigation into the chop shop on New Easley Highway led them to another chop shop at 4719 White Horse Rd. They said 34-year-old Juan Cano was identified as the owner of the business. They said it appeared that Cano was buying parts from Gosnell and then shipping the parts out of the country.

Hammond, Collins, Smith and Gosnell were charged with four counts of receiving stolen goods and a single count of unlawfully owning, operating, conducting, transporting or selling vehicles to a chop shop.

Cano was charged with eight counts of receiving stolen goods and a single count of unlawfully owning, operating, conducting, transporting or selling vehicles to a shop.

Deputies said the property recovered as part of the investigation totaled more than $300,000.
