Biden's wife makes campaign stop in Asheville

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

With only four days left before the election, candidates and their wives on both sides of the ticket are making campaign stops in several swing states.

Vice President Joe Biden's wife, Dr. Jill Biden, made a stop in Asheville on Friday morning at the Obama-Biden campaign field office on Hilliard Avenue.

Introduced by daughter Ashley Biden, Jill Biden spoke to supporters and volunteers while visiting the office about issues including education, women's healthcare and veterans affairs.

Biden touted her education background and support of the Obama-Biden education initiatives including the reformed student loan process and GI bill for veterans' education benefits. She has been a teacher for 32 years and currently teaches English at a community college in Virginia.

After talking about her son Beau Biden, who serves with the Delaware Army National Guard, she shared a story about the how their family Skyped with Beau on election night in 2008 because he had been deployed a month before the election.

"Our hearts were a little heavy because our son wasn't there," she said.

Celebrating the grounds gained for women's healthcare since Obama took office, Biden talked about how she hopes the country will continue to move forward with not only with women's issues but all issues.

"I know how important it is that women make their own decisions about their own bodies and health care," Biden said.

With only a few days left to get people to the polls, Biden encouraged supporters to get out and get people to vote.

"It's going to be you who takes us forward," Biden said.

Biden is also scheduled to make a stop in Charlotte on Friday afternoon. Her husband made a campaign stop in Asheville in October where he spoke at a rally at a gymnasium on the campus of UNC Asheville.

Other highly contested states are getting campaign visits on Friday. President Barack Obama will be in Ohio while Republican presidential candidate Gov. Mitt Romney is in Wisconsin.
