Christopher Belcher (Greenville Co. Detention Center)
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A man wanted in Florida on a second-degree murder charge of his wife was arrested Thursday in Greenville County at a relative's home, according to the U.S. Marshals.
A spokesperson for the Columbia, SC, office of the U.S. Marshal Service said Christopher Belcher, 43, was wanted out of Hillsborough County, FL, on one count of second-degree murder and one count of arson of an occupied structure since Oct. 25.
The spokesperson said Belcher was arrested at his sister's home on Ridge Road in Greenville with the help of the fugitive task force.
"I wasn't hiding him in any way," said Kim Belcher.
She said when her brother showed up on her doorstep he didn't face any charges and she was only recently aware that he had a warrant out for his arrest.
"A lot of people love my brother he's good with kids," said Kim Belcher. "My family was glad to see him, glad to see he was alright."
Kim Belcher said she can't be sure what really happened to her brother Christopher's wife, Gwendolyn Belcher.
"I don't know what happened that night," said Kim Belcher. "I can't say he did it, I won't say he did it because I don't know."
But Kim Belcher does question if evidence against her brother has been planted. She would like a clean investigation on the death of a woman she says didn't deserve this.
Greenville County deputies said they assisted in the arrest. Christopher Belcher is currently being held at the Greenville County Detention Center awaiting extradition.
According to WTVT in Tampa, Christopher Belcher is accused of killing his wife. They reported her body was found inside of a burned out car in September.
